With the arrival of "spooky season", it's time for an abundance of Halloween-themed cooking and baking contests. In Killer Cakes on Prime Video, groups of cake decorators are challenged to create the most frightening, eerie, and slimy cakes they can imagine. However, they must ensure that the cakes taste delicious too!
Killer Cakes features teams of skilled cake artists competing to create the most terrifying, disgusting, and delicious cakes in hopes of winning a $20,000 prize and the coveted “Golden Knife” trophy.
The first episode sees four pairs of contestants vying for the top spot, with one duo being eliminated by the end. In the subsequent episode, the remaining three teams battle it out for the ultimate reward. During the initial round, the cake artists are given six hours to produce their eerie creations, adhering to three specific criteria: the cake must have movement, incorporate a weapon for cutting, and include an element that simulates “blood” squirting or oozing.
Assisting the teams with the special effects aspect of the challenge are SFX experts Ashley Levy and Tom Woodruff Jr. The panel of judges responsible for evaluating and tasting each completed cake comprises horror actress Danielle Harris and macabre food artist Nikk Alcaraz.
It’s amazing how versatile the format is—there’s literally something for everyone. From the heartwarming camaraderie of “Bake Off” to the wild creativity of shows like “Is It Cake?” and the quirky premise of “Crime Scene Kitchen,” it feels like there’s a baking competition tailored for every niche interest. It’s a testament to how appealing the act of baking can be, bringing together various audiences with its mix of creativity, skill, and a touch of drama.
