9-1-1 is back and its buzzing. The 118 team have their hands full dealing with the chaos of millions of bees swarming the streets. What happened? A tractor trailer carrying millions of bees has an accident on the highway releasing a swarm of killer bees on to an unsuspecting public.
The episode opens with a pilot flying solo in his new plane which flies into a swarm of bees. More on him later. The mix of the absurd—like a bee swarm taking over LA—and the personal stakes of the characters really captures the essence of 9-1-1. The rescues with the victims of the bee stings were great but what really drove the story this episode was the personal stories going on with our favorite crew. Starting with Buck, we saw a very sweet (short) scene between he and Tommy but his main story this week was his struggles with the new Captain. This newer, calm Buck I can appreciate - old Buck would've went off the deep end without speaking about it to everyone else first.
Speaking of this new Captain - is he in love with Buck or something because he is extremely tough on him. Now that Buck has saved his life from a construction accident, I am very interested to see where the story goes next with these two - that is if he survives. Buck may also be experiencing a mental issue as he zoned out while being yelled at. One can only take so much abuse and Oliver Stark acting was fantastic. Buck's struggle with the new captain adds an intriguing layer, especially with the tension between them. It’ll be interesting to see how that relationship develops, especially after Buck’s heroic act.

Eddie and his moustache are very frustrating his ongoing issues with Christopher are definitely heart-wrenching; it’s tough to watch their bond strain like that. Hen is still working on getting her daughter back but we saw no real movement this episode. Chim was kind of just in the episode with nothing to do. Its hard for everyone to get a story in a cast this size so I'm looking forward to see where his story goes this season. I noticed he and Hen's daughter are bonding. The potential conflict with Hen's daughter is a great angle to explore too.
Maddie assisted a bee sting victim who was allergic - doing what she does best and Bobby has a new job as a consultation on a movie set about firefighters. It seems the actor he is helping may want to become a firefighter for real after hearing all the amazing rescues that Bobby Captained.

The best storyline of the episode comes from Athena who was requested by Dennis Jenkins, the man that killed her fiancé to supervise his prison transport. While on the road, she is attacked by an unknown pretending to be a cop. She decides to change the flight and of course you guessed it her plane comes into contact with the plane from the opening scene that flew into the swarm of bees. Now Athena is stuck on a plane with no pilot and is falling fast.
That’s a perfect setup for next week’s episode! The show really knows how to blend personal drama with high-stakes emergencies. Can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!
